Be Full of Thanks

In the midst of all the worry and sadness this fall, it is still important to take time to be thankful for what we have been given. In our lives we have been given much, but in Conan's fight, he has been given much too.

In these years, he has enjoyed fatherhood and his marriage to Gretta. He has sold a business and started a new job. He has touched the lives of countless children through his soccer and basketball activities.

If you have a special story about Conan and you would like to share it with Gretta, Henry and others, please leave it in a comment or send me an e-mail. I will add them to the blog for everyone to treasure.

These are the things to focus on now. Yes, we are losing him, but at least we had him.

Conan and I have known eachother for such a long time. I'm crushed seeing this happen to him and his whole family. Colon as I called him taught me how to enjoy the game of soccer and how to become a bit more outgoing. Conan will always hold a special place in my heart. We shared some great memories.
We had the opportunity to play together on the defensive side of the ball in the men's league. Great times playing next to him. We shared many laughs going out with Tony and Chris. I also remember when we took Conan's brother Cory down to Yamaka My Weekend. Love you brother. Stay strong and you will always be in our hearts.

Like so many others who have commented here, Conan was my high school soccer coach but he was also so much more than that. He was a friend, a mentor, a role model, and that person you could go to for anything. It has been 10 years since my graduation from Rocky and there is no question that Conan had a role in shaping my character. He always took the time to just talk (or listen). And when you are a high school girl, sometimes that is what you need the most and he understood that. I remember Conan introducing a few of us to the movie Super Troopers and realizing, as a high schooler, adults can be fun! I remember when Conan met Gretta and how excited he was when he would tell us about her. I love reading the comments online of every life he has touched before and after I met him, in addition to knowing that he continued to stay in touch with my parents after I moved away from the Quad Cities. It's hard to find the words for a moment like this but I find comfort in knowing there are a thousand more stories like mine. I think we can all say Conan has made us want to be better people and enjoy life to the fullest. Thank you Conan!
